3cMashed potatoes
3lbLean pork, ground
1cWater
1/4tsNutmeg
1/4tsAllspice
1tbSalt
1/4tsPepper
1/2cOnion, chopped
  Pastry for 2 (2 crust) pies

Tourtiere or pork pie is a regional French-Canadian dish usually served at Christmas, This recipe makes two pies, each pie makes 8 servings. There are many recipes for this pie, and this is called "Toochie" pie.

In a saucepan, combine the ground pork, water, nutmeg, allspice, salt, pepper and onion. Cook over moderate heat for 30 minutes, stirring often to prevent sticking. Remove from heat; add the mashed potatoes; and mix well. Cool.

Fill two pastry-lined plates;adjust top crusts, slashing pastry to allow for the steam to escape as the pies bake. Bake in a hot oven, 425 degrees F., For 40 minutes. Serve hot or cold.
